Goats On-Site at 1000 Islands Environmental Center

Two times each year (June and September) we have goats on loan from Mulberry Lane Farms to help us control invasive species. Between 12 – 18 goats are on-site each time.

Weather permitting, the goats will be in a fenced-in area (wooded area at start of boardwalk trail off the picnic area) to eat invasive plants–mainly Buckthorn. They also like to eat poison ivy and garlic mustard which are also invasive.

The goats will be working (eating) from approximately 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM daily.

After watching the goats, stop in the Nature Center building to check out our live animals and the many native fish, deer and other animal mounts.
