Crayfish Craze! Community Crayfish Hunt @ 1000 Islands Environmental Center
Jul 14 @ 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

This is a self-guided crayfish hunt in the Konkapot Creek to catch & release crayfish and other aquatic critters. Nets and buckets can be checked out at the front desk of the Environmental Center. A paper and electronic (see our Facebook page) identification guide will be provided.

Wear water or tennis shoes to walk in the water. Bring an ice cream bucket and bug net if you have one. Sunscreen is encouraged. Open to all ages and free.

Summer Storybook Walk @ 1000 Islands Environmental Center
Jul 17 @ 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

This is a fun, educational activity for the entire family. Enjoy the outdoors and read the book Summer Days and Nights on our kid-friendly boardwalk trail.

Reading stations will be set up along the boardwalk for a self-guided walk to read a page or two at each station. Visit each station to read the entire book. After completing the book, be sure to explore the Conservancy Zone and trails.

This is a free program for all families!

Children ages 8 – 12 act out a wilderness survival scenario and learn the basic methods of survival in the wilderness.

Activities include shelter building, fire building, finding water, and methods of finding food. The entire program is outdoors. Please wear appropriate clothing, bring sunscreen, and bug spray. Bring a water bottle and a bagged lunch.

The class size is limited. Registration and a $15 fee for the three-day Camp are required.

Virtual Class – 1000 Little Wonders & Conservancy Crusaders @ 1000 Islands Environmental Center

This will be a virtual event via the 1000 Islands Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/1000IslandsKaukauna/

The theme for the July 24th class is: Animal Homes

Explore animal homes and how they make them through reading a story, discovering the animal’s homes in the story, and looking inside some of the homes we find on our trails.

The class will start with reading the book The Very Best Bed and then identify numerous items in the book that we see at 1000 Islands as well. A virtual hike on the Conservancy Zone will conclude the class. The approximate class time is 20 – 30 minutes and can be viewed anytime after July 24th on the 1000 Islands Facebook page.

Storytime in the Garden at the Kaukauna Public Library @ Kaukauna Public Library - Learning Garden

Explore the wonder of bees and butterflies on a sensory level at the KPL Interactive Learning Garden.

Through interactive and exploratory methods, children will discover the means in which pollinators, like butterflies, survive, and help plants grow.

Space is limited and registration is required through the KPL.

The program is weather dependent.
