Alley Paving Project – Wk of 10/17/22

Posted on Oct 14, 2022 by

This week the concrete contractor poured the alley aprons and sidewalk along Boyd for the 10th/9th, 9th/8th & 8th/Dodge alleys .  The paving contractor paved a final mat on the 6th/7th alley from the west end to Eden. They also paved the 9th/10th alley, both mats.  Project map here.

WEST ALLEYS BETWEEN 6TH/7TH & 7TH/8TH AREAS:

CONSTRUCTION

The concrete contractor poured the sidewalk and aprons at the alley ends where they were removed on October 13th.  They still need to pour 2 more aprons.  The ends with new concrete will be closed for 7 days, but there will be one alley end open to get in and out.

EAST ALLEYS BETWEEN 10TH/9TH, 9TH/8TH & 8TH/DODGE AREAS:

CONSTRUCTION

The concrete contractor poured the remaining curb & gutter, sidewalks, and alley aprons on October 13th.  The new concrete will be closed for 7 days, but there will be one alley end open to get in and out. The paving contractor will fine grade the 8th/Dodge alley early next week.   The paving contractor will pave the remaining alleys next week.

DRIVEWAYS/PARKING

Access to your driveway will be restricted when construction is happening on your alley. The contractor performing the work uses large machines, dump trucks, and needs ample space to store needed items for the work being performed. Please find an alternate parking space while the work is taking place. You may park on the street in front of your house. Driveways will be closed until the stone has been placed and graded. Construction normally begins by 7:00 am each day.

  • If you need special accommodations for parking, please reach out as we can arrange for different parking options if we know about them. This includes anyone with disabilities, recent surgeries, expecting mothers, and mothers with newborns that have appointments. Unfortunately, there is not a one size fits all for parking and the fewer cars that the contractor has to work around, the faster they can get the work done and finish the neighborhood.

SAFETY

While work is taking place, the alleys will be closed to traffic.  Please do not try to drive down the alleys while excavation and stone placement is taking place, there will be large equipment and dumps moving around.  Please keep children away from the construction. Operators try their best to see what might be near the equipment, but their view can be obstructed at times.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS WORK AND SCHEDULE CAN CHANGE DUE TO WEATHER OR UNFORSEEN CONSTRUCTION DELAYS. THESE UPDATES ARE TO AID THE COMMUNICATION PROCESS AS WE ALL WORK TOGETHER TO COMPLETE THIS PROJECT IN A TIMELY MANNER*

Utility and street construction is not easy. There will be dirt, mud, dust, and construction equipment everywhere. Construction activity will be noisy and getting to your residence will be difficult at times. We ask for your patience and understanding as we make the necessary improvements to your street and utilities. Do not hesitate to contact the City with questions or concerns, we can’t help if we don’t know.
