Kenneth Avenue Area Utility Relay Project – Wk of 09/06/22

WHITNEY STREET, 6TH STREET, 7TH STREET, & 8TH STREET AREAS:
SEWER CONSTRUCTION
Monday is a Holiday, so there will be no work performed on site. Starting Tuesday, the Sewer Contractor will be starting work on 6th Street. They will be starting with Water Main Construction, and will work from Main Avenue to the West toward Kenneth Avenue. The 2nd crew on site will be performing some miscellaneous items on 8th Street to wrap that up including one last property’s laterals, final water main tie in at 8th/Kenneth intersection, capping a water line on Hendricks, and performing a few other needed repairs. Once this crew finishes this work on 8th, they too will move to 6th and take over with Water Main Construction, while the first crew begins work on the sewer main. The Sewer related work will begin at 5th/Main Intersection and will run south to 6th, then west following the water main work.
PAVEMENT CONSTRUCTION
There is no plan for any pavement construction on site next week. This work on 8th is anticipated to be done the week of September 12th. Contractor may come to site toward the end of next week to begin if they have availability to do so.
DRIVEWAYS/PARKING
Access to your driveway may be restricted when construction is happening on your block. The contractor performing the work uses large machines, dump trucks, and needs ample space to store the items needed for the work being performed. Please find an alternate parking space during the day if you need to come and go. You may park on side streets or areas where work is not actively happening (see above work locations map showing where NOT to park on streets). Driveways will be opened and accessible at the end of each day as construction is ending. You may park overnight in your driveway. Construction normally begins by 7:00am each day, so please move your vehicles accordingly.
- If you need special accommodations for parking, please reach out as we can arrange for different parking options if we know about them. This includes anyone with disabilities, recent surgeries, expecting mothers, and mothers with newborns that have appointments. Unfortunately, there is not a one size fits all for parking and the fewer cars that the contractor has to work around, the faster they can get the work done and finish the neighborhood.
SAFETY
While driving through the construction site, be sure to travel slowly and keep an eye out for equipment. This not only cuts down on the dust, but also keeps the construction workers safe. Operators try their best to see traffic, but their view can be obstructed at times. It is always best to try and gain eye contact with equipment operators prior to driving by.

Utility and street construction is not easy. There will be dirt, mud, dust, and construction equipment everywhere. Construction activity will be noisy and getting to your residence will be difficult at times.
