Alley Paving Project – Wk of 09/06/22

Posted on Sep 2, 2022 by

The excavation contractor has been working on asphalt removal, excavation, and stone placement on the 6th/7th Streets alley from Eden Avenue to west of Foerster Avenue.  Check out the weekly update map here.

WEST ALLEYS BETWEEN 6TH/7TH & 7TH/8TH AREAS:

CONSTRUCTION

The excavation contractor has completed the asphalt removal, excavation, and stone placement in these alleys.  The pavement contractor is planning on fine grading and paving these alleys in the next two weeks.

EAST ALLEYS BETWEEN 10TH/9TH, 9TH/8TH & 8TH/DODGE AREAS:

CONSTRUCTION

Excavating contractor is planning to begin working on the storm sewer in the alley between 8th Street and 9th Street during the week of September 6th. Their work will start at Boyd Avenue and work to the east toward Cleveland Avenue. The contractor will be installing storm sewer and 2 manholes from Boyd Avenue to Cleveland Avenue. The storm sewer installation will take about 2 to 3 days to complete.  The excavation contractor should be starting the pavement removal, excavation, and stone placement on the East Alleys between 10th/9th, 9th/8th & 8th/Dodge the week of September 6th.  The contractor was planning on possibly starting with the 8th/Dodge alley.

DRIVEWAYS/PARKING

Access to your driveway may be restricted when construction is happening on your block. The contractor performing the work uses large machines, dump trucks, and needs ample space to store needed items for the work being performed. Please find an alternate parking space during the day if you need to come and go. You may park on side streets or areas where work is not actively happening (see attached drawing showing where NOT to park on streets). Driveways will be closed until the stone has been placed and graded. Construction normally begins by 7:00am each day.

  • If you need special accommodations for parking, please reach out as we can arrange for different parking options if we know about them. This includes anyone with disabilities, recent surgeries, expecting mothers, and mothers with newborns that have appointments. Unfortunately, there is not a one size fits all for parking and the fewer cars that the contractor has to work around, the faster they can get the work done and finish the neighborhood.

SAFETY

While work is taking place, the alleys will be closed to traffic.  Please do not try to drive down the alleys while excavation and stone placement is taking place, there will be large equipment and dumps moving around.  Please keep children away from the construction. Operators try their best to see what might be near the equipment, but their view can be obstructed at times.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS WORK AND SCHEDULE CAN CHANGE DUE TO WEATHER OR UNFORSEEN CONSTRUCTION DELAYS. THESE UPDATES ARE TO AID THE COMMUNICATION PROCESS AS WE ALL WORK TOGETHER TO COMPLETE THIS PROJECT IN A TIMELY MANNER*

Utility and street construction is not easy. There will be dirt, mud, dust, and construction equipment everywhere. Construction activity will be noisy and getting to your residence will be difficult at times. We ask for your patience and understanding as we make the necessary improvements to your street and utilities. Do not hesitate to contact the City with questions or concerns, we can’t help if we don’t know.
