Kenneth Avenue Area Utility Relay Update

Posted on Jul 21, 2022 by

Construction on the Kenneth Avenue Area Utility Relay Project will begin next week Monday, July 25th. Click here for proposed work locations and possible impacts to residents.

Whitney Street, 6th Street, 7th Street, & 8th Street Areas:

CONSTRUCTION

Contractor will begin working on 7th Street with Water Main Construction. Their work will begin at Crooks, as they work to the west toward Kenneth. Water main work will mostly be on the north half of the road. Please try to avoid driving down 7th near the work area as much as possible, as road will be reduced to one-way traffic while construction is happening. Please Note: There will be some work being done between Crooks and Main on the north half of 7th Street tomorrow afternoon (July 22nd) as they prepare to come in for Monday.

DRIVEWAYS/PARKING

Access to your driveway may be restricted when construction is happening on your block. The contractor performing the work uses large machines, dump trucks, and needs ample space to store needed items for the work being performed. Please find an alternate parking space during the day if you need to come and go. You may park on side streets or areas where work is not actively happening (see attached drawing showing where NOT to park on streets). Driveways will be opened and accessible at the end of each day as construction is ending. You may park overnight in your driveway. Construction normally begins by 7:00am each day, so please move your vehicles accordingly.

  • If you need special accommodations for parking please reach out as we can arrange for different parking options if we know about them. This includes anyone with disabilities, recent surgeries, expecting mothers, and mothers with newborns that have appointments. Unfortunately there is not a one size fits all for parking and the fewer cars that the contractor has to work around, the faster they can get the work done and finish the neighborhood.

SAFETY

While driving through the construction site, be sure to travel slowly and keep an eye out for equipment. This not only cuts down on the dust, but also keeps the construction workers safe. Operators try their best to see traffic, but their view can be obstructed at times. It is always best to try and gain eye contact with equipment operators prior to driving by.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS WORK AND SCHEDULE CAN CHANGE DUE TO WEATHER OR UNFORSEEN CONSTRUCTION DELAYS. THESE UPDATES ARE TO AID THE COMMUNICATION PROCESS AS WE ALL WORK TOGETHER TO COMPLETE THIS PROJECT IN A TIMELY MANNER*

Utility and street construction is not easy. There will be dirt, mud, dust, and construction equipment everywhere. Construction activity will be noisy and getting to your residence will be difficult at times. We ask for your patience and understanding as we make the necessary improvements to your street and utilities. Do not hesitate to contact the City with questions or concerns, we can’t help if we don’t know. Contact Taylor Conger, Project Engineer, at 920.766.6305 or [email protected] with any questions.
