Highway reopens in the City of Kaukauna

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region office announces all major construction is complete on the WIS 96 urban reconstruction project in the City of Kaukauna. Crews reopened WIS 96 between Lawe Street and Claribel Street on Monday, August 31. The highway closed for construction on April 6, 2020. The $2.32 million project is expected to finish under budget. Minor project clean-up/landscaping will be completed this week. That work will not impact traffic.

WIS 96 project improvements included complete reconstruction of the highway between Lawe Street and Claribel Street with replacement of concrete pavement, curb and gutter, sidewalks and storm sewer. The project also created on-street bicycle accommodations and corrected substandard intersection angles at Washington Street and Grant Street/Plank Road.

Project benefits include a smoother riding surface with replacement of deteriorated concrete pavement. The project improved safety for motorists and pedestrians with the updated sidewalk, the addition of on-street bicycle accommodations, and intersection improvements at Washington Street and Grant Street/Plank Road.
