KAUKAUNA VETERANS MEMORIAL PARK ASSOCIATION MINUTES OF OCTOBER 10, 2019

A meeting of the Kaukauna Veterans Memorial Park Association was called to order by President Tony Penterman at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2019.

Present: Mayor Penterman, Fred Cazzola, Gene Schaefer, Bob Kelley, Sue Duda, Lisa Wolfinger, Mark Landreman, Brian Roebke, Karen Koch

Absent: Brenda Leon, Kennedy Coffee, Katie Harris

A motion to excuse the absent members was made by Lisa Wolfinger, seconded by Sue Duda. All members voted aye, motion carried.

Lisa requested an amendment to the minutes from May 2 changing Mayor from present to absent. Fred Cazzola asked to further amend the May 2 minutes to include the business name Henry Rifle Company as the company where the flag plaque was donated from. A motion was made to approve the amended minutes by Bob Kelley, seconded by Gene Schaefer.

Veterans Day will be celebrated on November 11, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ring of Honor. The Association asked that the Street Department deliver the chairs and bleachers, signage and cones as they have in the past. Dennis Schmidt, VFW, will be in charge of the ceremony. Students from NDLC will participate in the service. Lisa stated that the Auxiliary is doing POW MIA for Veterans Day as they did on Memorial Day.

Fred commented that he walked around the park and saw some vegetation between the bricks that need attention and some newer bricks that should be filled in again with sand. Also, some bricks are loose and should be reset to they don’t become a tripping hazard. It was recommended that the sidewalks be edged before November 11. Brian Roebke commented that when the grass is long, the crews should rake the grass up that is left lying on the lawn.

Gene stated that he will take brick order forms to the service. Any Veteran who was honorably discharged can be honored on a brick that is purchased. Brian suggested advertising bricks on the web site and social media a month before the orders are put in (February 1 for March 1 and July 1 for August 1). Brian agreed to put reminders in the paper occasionally.

Mayor asked the Veterans how the storage units are working at the SPAR building. The members agreed that the area is beautiful and thanked the Mayor.

There was discussion on flags/poles in the Ring, and Fred asked about adding one for Army Reserve. Gene stated that a pole for the new branch of service will be added when it is official.

There being no further business to be brought before the Association, a motion to adjourn was made by Brian Roebke seconded by Lisa Wolfinger. All members voted aye; motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 4:20 p.m.
